I’m Laurie Erdman, the potter behind Claytastic and the soul behind Spirit of Clay, the blog that explores answers to life’s big questions through clay.
After years of tolling away as a lawyer, I decided to explore my creative side. Always being drawn to the tactile nature of pottery, I found myself at a potter’s wheel. Not only did I discover my creative side there, but I found a spiritual connection to nature deeper than any hike I had ever taken.
Like any spiritual practice, I found myself learning to detach from results, be open to life’s lessons and to connect with my inner self. When diagnosed with multiple sclerosis years later, these lessons sustained me during those dark hours.
Now everyday in the studio is a day of worship. I commune with the earth and learn more universal truths. Transforming clay into my interpretation of my favorite landscapes keeps me grounded and centered. From my potter’s wheel, I see the benefit of detaching from outcomes and being present to see the beauty of the world around me. The result is pottery made from, inspired by and connecting you with the soul of nature.
On this site, you can learn more about me, my pottery, and the spiritual aspect of making and using handmade pottery; pottery is infused with the spirit of its maker. Here you will see how my pots will bring awe for our environment, a sense of humor and playfulness into your life.
