As a lawyer by training and practice, I am a communicator. When I turned to ceramics as my creative outlet, it was natural that I would use my pots to communicate ideas and emotions. Depending on the message or the feeling I am expressing, my pots shout—or whisper.
I want my pots to express the joy and playfulness I feel when sitting at my wheel. Nothing makes me happier than altering a freshly thrown vessel, and then pushing and pulling it to life, seeking a pot that is fresh and loose, with a sense of movement and sometimes whimsy.
My pots are also a celebration of my other joy and inspiration—gardening and the outdoors. The shapes and patterns I find among the leaves and flowers, fruits and vegetables, sticks and weeds, find their way into my pots. Whether evoking images of a flower or a bird or crashing waves, I want my pots to speak of and celebrate nature.
